From bacteria to engineered gene/DNA sequences to higher-order lifeforms such as genetically engineered mice, the patenting of biological material has become common practice. This patentability facilitates a commodification of living matter, both naturally occurring and synthetic. Feeding on Infinity invites viewers to co-create and share ownership of new speculative organisms, challenging the practices of individual and institutional ownership over our planet’s diminishing biodiversity.
Leveraging open source coding platforms and freely available cloud-based GPU’s, the installation can generate a nearly infinite number of biomorphic, pseudo-cellular and counterfeit amoebic forms, prompting discussion around community-driven bioprospecting and natural capital.
